The West Cottages are located on the West Campus bluffs and offer a peaceful, retreat-like setting with ocean views. Sleeping accommodations include rooms with private and shared bathrooms.

Campus visitors should use UCSB Wireless Web, which features self-registration for UC Santa Barbara guests on the Wireless Web login page. Once you register, you'll receive an SMS/text-message-provided password, which gives you a seven-day connection. Campus visitors from eduroam-participating institutions can simply select eduroam from their operating system WiFi options and log in using their institution's credentials. If you experience any issues with eduroam while visiting UCSB, please contact your home institution's service desk. UCSB Information Technology offers campus-wide WiFi instructions.

  • The Residential Network (ResNet) offers high-speed wireless internet access (ssid: ResNet-Open) at no charge throughout sleeping rooms and common areas. For further information, please refer to https://info.resnet.ucsb.edu/
  • Please note: Personal Wireless Access Points are not permitted to be set up in any housing facilities.

Check-In Instructions: There are two steps to take in order to check into your specific cottage:

Step One: You will need to check in and get your keys at The Miramar Center at Sierra Madre Villages.

Please make sure that if you have taken a taxi it remains at The Miramar Center while you get your keys, as it will then need to take you to the West Cottages.

Step Two: At check-in, you will receive your room number, key, and a map with directions to the West Cottages.

Important information for your safety and security: The West Cottages are located in a remote area of campus. We provide the very best in security with an electronic key system. However, there is not a 24-hour staff person living on site, so it is critical that you keep your key with you at all times. If you are locked out at some point during your stay, you can call the front desk at The Miramar Center for assistance. The lockout turnaround time could be as long as 45 minutes, so please be cognizant of this when you leave your room or cottage.

General Parking Information: Parking permits are required at the West Cottages and on the UCSB campus at all times. Guests staying at West Cottages may sign up for the Transportation & Parking Services ePermit system, where your license plate is your parking permit, by clicking on Student & Guest Login here. Rates are $8/day, $56/month and $120/quarter. West Cottages guests' are eligible for faculty ePermits which are valid in Staff and Faculty spaces at UCSB.  If you do not see faculty permit options when you login, reach out to tps-sales@ucsb.edu in advance of your stay to ensure your account is configured correctly. Please refer to the campus map for the location of campus lots.

Visitor Parking: Visitors at the West Cottages will need a permit to park. Your visitors may purchase a short term guest permit at the Parking Pay Station in the West Cottages parking lot.

  • UCSB Recreation Center. The Rec Cen is open seven days per week (daily hours vary), and day passes are available. Contact the Rec Cen’s front desk at 805-893-7619 for more information. Equipment includes racquetball and squash courts, weight training rooms, a gym, and three swimming pools.
  • Bicycles: Information about where to rent/purchase bicycles can be found in the information binder inside each cottage. Please utilize the outside bicycle racks in order to avoid excessive cleaning and potential damage to the cottage interiors.
  • Climate: The weather in Santa Barbara is usually quite pleasant. During the summer and fall the days are warm (75°F) and the nights are cool (55°F - 60°F) with occasional fog or overcast skies. During the winter and spring, we can experience periods of heavy rain and cooler weather. Days can range from 50°F - 65°F and evenings can range from 35°F - 45°F. A sweater or coat is typically required in the evenings during all seasons.
  • Mail: The nearest off-campus US Post Office to the West Cottages is located in the University Village Shopping Center near the corner of Hollister Avenue and Storke Road.
  • Cancellations: All cancellations or requests for a refund must be submitted in writing (fax or email). A $50 per room cancellation fee will be retained or due for ALL accommodation reservations canceled after the original reservation is made. Cancellations after the scheduled check-in date (or "no show") will result in forfeiture of all fees (any exception requests are to be made in writing to University & Community Housing Services).
  • Currency: It is strongly recommended that participants from outside the U.S. exchange their currency into dollars at the airport of entry (the nearest currency exchange is 15km from campus).
